1950
German engineer Karl Hottinger founds Hottinger Messtechnik with 10 employees in the small Bavarian town of Vogtareuth, Germany. The first products are the KWS amplifier for measuring force, displacement, and vibration, and an inductive displacement transducer with plunger.
1955
The company moves to Darmstadt near Frankfurt. The production of strain gages and strain-gage transducers commences.
1963
The company name changes to HBM.
1970
Introduction of the KWS/6E-5 measuring amplifier. Many are still in use today!
1973
HBM founds its US subsidiary in Marlborough, MA, USA.
1977
HBM becomes the first calibration laboratory in the German Calibration Service (DKD).
1986
HBM is the first company in Germany to be awarded ISO9001 certification.
1991
HBM's test laboratory for EMC and equipment safety receives accreditation in Germany.
1996
HBM's environmental protection management system is certified according to DIN ISO14001. HBM's US factory is awarded ISO9001 certification.
1997
HBM's Chinese factory is founded in Suzhou, China.
2006
Launch of the T12 digital torque measurement system.
