HBM has launched its PACEline product group with the complete, calibrated CMC measurement chain as the first product. PACEline provides piezoelectric force measurement technology for quality control in industrial production processes with typical applications including fitting and mounting processes such as pressing, riveting or clinching. Piezoelectric force measurement technology benefits from extremely high stiffness, very small mounting dimensions and high natural frequencies.
The CMC measurement chain includes a piezoelectric force transducer, a transducer connection cable and a charge amplifier for nominal (rated) forces ranging from 5kN, 20kN, 50kN, 70kN to 120kN; these are the most common forces used in mounting processes. The charge amplifier has a ±10V analog DC voltage as output signal. Voltage supply, measurement range switching and the charge amplifier’s reset output are electrically isolated preventing interference from ground loops.
A characteristic feature of the CMC measurement chain is that measuring ranges of 100% and 20% of the nominal (rated) force are individually calibrated for each measurement chain. A zoom function is provided enabling users to focus on process-critical sections and ensure thus very precise monitoring.
The chain is fitted with TEDS allowing the characteristic data of the two measurement ranges to be recognized and automatically configured by subsequent evaluation electronics providing TEDS functions. When used with the MP85A FASTpress process controller, the CMC measurement chain gives a complete solution for applications that require small mounting dimensions, high stiffness and convenient monitoring of press-fit processes.
