Glass testing: Simulation of the stresses on windshields

The Fraunhofer Institute for Materials Mechanics uses a test bench for windshields made of laminated glass to increase safety in cars. HBM measurement technology ensures that reliable results are obtained in the test bench.
In modern cars, windshields provide more than good visibility: They have meanwhile become supporting components that are relevant to safety.
Therefore the Fraunhofer Institute for Materials Mechanics conducts strength tests on the windshield (in combination with FEM). During these tests, stresses are simulated on the outside and inside (see figure).
