Peak performance on high bar and parallel bars: An artificial gymnast is testing sports equipment
Gymnasts on high bar and parallel bars achieve peak performance in their sports. To ensure that the sports equipment endures the stresses placed on it, it is thoroughly tested by “artificial gymnasts”.

At the Institut für Sportwissenschaften (Sports Science) in Freiburg, Germany, an HBM measurement chain has been used to ensure reliable test results already for many years:
The artificial gymnast is equipped with two force transducers and – depending on the test – also with acceleration transducers. For some tests, displacement transducers or strain gages are installed directly at the high bar.
The following HBM products are used:
- U3/10KN force transducers for force measurement in the “arms“ of the artificial gymnast
- 1-WA/50MM-T displacement transducers (if required directly at the sports equipment)
- B12 acceleration transducers (if required directly at the sports equipment)
- Strain gages
- MGCplus amplifier system for data acquisition.
