T12 - New dimensions in torque measurement
HBM's new T12 digital torque measurement system sets new standards in high-precision torque measurement.
The rotor of the measurement system is fed by the stator through an inductive system without any mechanical contact. The strain gage measuring bridge in the rotor is fed by a carrier frequency source to provide excellent properties with regard to signal quality and high measurement accuracy.
Resolution pushes the physical limits of strain gage technology
The output signal of the strain gage measuring bridge is converted into a digital signal in the rotor of the measurement system; the resolution of the analog-to-digital converter is 19 bit and thus pushes the physical limits of strain gage technology. The input signal amplitude of the transducer can thus be divided into over 1 million steps (positive and negative direction of load); switching of measurement ranges is not required. Internal aliasing is prevented by the high sampling rate.
Interference-proof through digital data transmission
Digital data transmission between rotor and stator makes the measurement system very robust against interference. Digital data is output via a CANbus interface; the system can be optionally equipped with a ProfibusDP interface. In addition, the conventional frequency output (10kHz ± 5kHz and 60kHz ± 30kHz) and an optional analog output (±10V) are available. The measuring system can be upgraded with an optical rotational speed measuring system.
Convincing performance features
The T12 torque measurement system features impressive parameters, particularly with regard to its characteristics and temperature behavior pushing the limits of what could be attained so far. The wide measurement frequency range of up to 6 kHz (-3 dB) makes it the ideal choice for use in highly dynamic test stands. T12 offers many features to enable users to obtain comprehensive additional information about their application and measurement system.
This includes filtering and scaling of signals, measurement and output of rotor temperature, internal backup of extrema of the torque, rotational speed and temperature signal as well as storage of calibration data.
Free software for individual adaptation
The user can adapt the measuring range to the maximum values of the application. For this purpose, free software is available providing a CANbus interface and a CAN-to-USB converter for parameterizing the measurement system, taking measurements and conveniently processing measurement data.
The software furthermore enables the configuration of the measurement system to be stored in the transducer. Four parameter sets are available for this purpose. In addition, the configuration can be stored in a file on the PC to be available to be sent by email.
