Load pins for railway braking systems ensure improved safety for rail transport

A leading rail car manufacturer needed a load pin for an integrated brake force monitoring system.

The load pin was to be installed as shown in the figure. The specification, defined in close collaboration with HBM, demanded a stainless steel load pin providing a 4 … 20 mA signal output. Whereupon HBM developed and produced the customized transducer shown in the second figure.

This load pin was successfully installed in the brake force monitoring system and used to test 100 bi-level rail coaches from the NJ TRANSIT railway system.
