Metrological testing of the performance setting on a cross trainer ergometer
Cross trainers are a very popular type of fitness equipment, with advantages over other conventional machines.
Many cross trainers are designed as ergometers, to allow a customized program to be set for the individual cardiovascular system of the person exercising. Because of this, ergometers are also frequently used in sports medicine, to directly strengthen the patient‘s cardiovascular system.
The status of cross trainer ergometers in sports medicine makes it clear that the accuracy of the ergometer is vital for deriving the maximum benefit from exercise. If the performance figure displayed on the ergometer is too low, this could have life-threatening consequences for a patient with a weak heart because the patient using the equipment would have to make more effort than the reading set on the equipment.
That criteria helped define the task of metrologically checking the accuracy of the performance set and displayed on the training computer of a cross trainer ergometer. This check must be made independently of the input values available to the training computer.
