Measuring the stress and deformation behavior of soil retaining structures reinforced with synthetics
To determine the stress and deformationbehavior of soil reinforced with synthetics, large-scale testing was carried out in a speciallydeveloped biaxial device (V = 1.5m3).
To determine the stress and deformationbehavior of soil reinforced with synthetics, large-scale testing was carried out in a speciallydeveloped biaxial device (V = 1.5m3). Because a special structure had to be designedfor this topic, the measurement techniquealso had to be specifically developed for thedevice and the particular assignment. Withthe chosen solution, there was extremely goodconcordance of measured values and calibrationvalues. The measurement techniqueallows the horizontal stresses of the biaxialdevice to be measured with increasing walldeformation and strain of the syntheticsinserted in the soil. The results extend ourknowledge of the bearing action of syntheticsand soil in the working load range.
