Symposium on Structural Durability in Darmstadt (SoSDiD)
HBM Award ceremony
For more than half a century Darmstadt has been the center of scientific research in structural durability. Since 2005, the Symposium on Structural Durability (SoSDiD) has been held in Darmstadt in intervals of three years to illustrate these activities and to develop design philosophies for next-generation components and materials. The following institutes and companies have joined forces:
- Technische Universität Darmstadt (Darmstadt Technical University)
- Zentrum für Konstruktionswerkstoffe - Staatliche Materialprüfungsanstalt Darmstadt - Fachgebiet und Institut für Werkstoffkunde
- Technische Universität Darmstadt - Fachgebiet Systemzuverlässigkeit und Maschinenakustik SzM
- Technische Universität Darmstadt - Institut für Stahlbau und Werkstoffmechanik IFSW
- Fraunhofer-Institut für Betriebsfestigkeit und Systemzuverlässigkeit (LBF)
(Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability) - Instron® Structural Testing Systems GmbH (IST)
- Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik GmbH (HBM)
The objective of the event is to provide experts worldwide with an international platform for studying the durability of structures and components. International research projects and results are presented and honored.
HBM cooperates with both the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability (LBF) and Darmstadt Technical University. The HBM Award for the promotion of young scientists at these institutes is presented on the occasion of the SoSDiD in intervals of three years. The objective is to advance innovative ideas from scientific research and to put them into practice more quickly.
Research in the field of durability requires close cooperation of scientists. Be it precise determination of life span or development of analysis methods - multiple domains need to be covered.
