Measurement of deformation on an experimental injection mold tool
The authors describe a way of checking the model upon which the computeraided tool design is based.
With injection molding the quality of the molded part depends to a large extent on the deformation characteristics of the mold tool. The tools are subjected to extreme loads due to the very high pressure levels that can occur inside the mold. This means that their deformation characteristics have to be considered during the design of the mold tool.
The authors describe a way of checking the model upon which the computeraided tool design is based. A specially developed measurement system based on inductive displacement transducers is described which provides information on the deformation effects on injection mold tools under load.
