Optical patch cables

Patch cables are used to extend optical fiber lengths. These cables have an optical plug on each end and are connected by means of an optical socket.

Cable pigtails are fitted on one end with an optical plug and the other end can be connected to a fiber optic cable or fiber optic sensor with a splice connection.

 

The advantages:

  • Low insertion loss
  • High reflection attenuation
  • Mechanical outer jacket

Two basic types of optical fibers in the connecting cables need to be distinguished depending on the application:

Fibers with 9 µm core diameter between interrogator and sensor chain.
Fibers with 6µm core diameter between the optical sensors.

Overview:

Each optical power loss is doubled due to the fact that light passes through the fiber in a bidirectional manner.

FS82 - Indoor Patch Cable Monomode fiber-optic cable with plug and 3 mm diameter, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100m long.
This is the most common type. These aramid yarn reinforced cables can be used in all indoor applications.
FS83 - Outdoor Patch Cable

Monomode fiber-optic cable with plug and 3 mm diameter; protected with an aramid yarn, stainless steel armor and a metallic net; 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100m long
Suitable for almost all outdoor and harsh environments and also for embedding in concrete structures.

Optical Adapters

HBM FiberSensing optical adapters for FBG sensors are used to connect several sensors in series with minimal optical losses.

  • 1-FS80 100 - Optical adapter FC/FC
  • 1-FS80 300 - Optical adapter SC/SC

1-OPT-STRIPPER

The stripping pliers are used to strip glass fibers to 900 μm, 250 μm and 125 μm. A preset V-opening enables the precise stripping away of the glass fiber buffer and coating. Adjustment is no longer necessary.

 

1-OPT-FIBERTESTER

The fiber tester, a red laser light source, is used for troubleshooting optical fiber systems, e.g. to determine fiber breaks or evaluate bending radii. The optical connecting socket of the fiber tester is designed for FC/APC plugs.

1-OPT-FIBERSET

This fiber set consists of a

  • 10 m glass fiber with a core diameter of 5 μm
  • 10 m textile hose with a diameter of approx. 2 mm and shrinkdown plastic tubing, 1 m in length
 

1-OPT-SPLICESET

Melt splice protection is used for the connection of fiber optic cables and fiber optic sensors. This set contains 2 packets of melt splice protection, 61 mm length and approx. 2.4 mm diameter.


1-OPT-COUPLER

Optical couplings are used to connect fiber optic patch cables with each other.


1-OPT-CLEANER

For the cleaning of optical sockets, for example on interrogators.


1-OPT CERA Splice

The light-transmitting cores of two optical fiber ends are coupled together using a splicing machine. Make sure that the lowest possible signal attenuation is achieved and mechanical protection of the splice provided. '1-OPT-CERA Splice' splices have only non-metallic stabilizers and are therefore the ideal solution for applications that do not permit metal parts in the measurement environment.
