Force Calibration at HBM: From 2.5 N to 5 MN

The HBM calibration laboratory offers many advantages when it comes to calibrating your force transducer:

  • Tensile and compressive force calibration in the range from 2.5 N to 5 MN - an extremely wide range. HBM maintains the only private calibration laboratory worldwide that can offer you this service
  • Calibration of complete measuring chains (also of third-party products) - at no additional cost for you
  • Decades of experience (since 1977) in the calibration of force transducers, force sensors and force measurement chains
  • From the cost-effective calibration of industrial sensors to the transfer standard that meets the highest demands

Traceable

  • ISO 17025 certification
  • Direct traceability to the German National Metrology Institute (PTB)
  • Assessment of the calibration laboratory by independent experts at regular intervals

Benefit from calibration certificates with minimal measurement uncertainty, directly traceable to the National Standard.

Precise

  • Calibration machines with minimal measurement uncertainty (in non-state calibration laboratories)
  • Dead-load machines (sensors are loaded with weights in the Earth’s gravity field) up to 240 kN, extraordinary for a private calibration laboratory
  • Machine accuracy up to 0.005% with compressive loading or 0.008% with tensile loading
  • Competence up to 5 MN for tensile and compressive loading

Optimize your measurement uncertainty assessment using the actual transducer characteristics - instead of data sheet specifications only.

Decision Guide: The Right Calibration For Your Demands

If you want to know everything about your sensor:

The sensor is measured in three varying mounting positions. That means: The sensor is rotated by 120° in the machine in each case - i.e. the force transducer needs to be mounted and dismounted three times.

The following characteristics are obtained from ISO 376 calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Hysteresis values for each calibration step
  • Repeatability and reproducibility for one and for varying mounting positions for each calibration step
  • Creep behavior
  • Return to zero
  • Interpolation error (potential deviation of the measured value from the least squares approximation).

Moreover, the calibration certificate specifies measurement uncertainty as per ISO 376, i.e. for ascending as well as ascending and descending force series.

HBM provides additional information such as measurement uncertainty including the effect of hysteresis as a special service at no additional cost. This goes beyond the requirements of the standard.

This calibration provides guaranteed proof that your force sensor is traceable measuring equipment (as per ISO 9001).

Best price-to-performance ratio with guaranteed traceability

Calibration per DAkkS-DKD-R 3-3 requires measurement in one mounting position only (as opposed to ISO 376). The following sensor characteristics are obtained from this calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Hysteresis values (reversibility error) for each calibration step
  • Return to zero
  • Linearity error (potential deviation of the measured value from the linear approximation).

Furthermore, the calibration certificate specifies the measurement uncertainty. The required repeatability and reproducibility data are based on statistical values resulting from calibrations of the same type. Besides HBM products, the database comprises many third-party sensors.

This calibration provides guaranteed proof that your force sensor is traceable measuring equipment (as per ISO 9001).

Conformity assessment: Should a force sensor be outside the specifications of the data sheet, HBM will point out this fact.

HBM offers working standard calibration with individually selectable load steps.

The following sensor characteristics are obtained from this calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Hysteresis values (reversibility error)
  • Linearity error (potential deviation of the measured value from the linear approximation).

Our recommendation: We recommend calibration per DAkkS-DKD-R 3-3, which, at identical cost, provides you with more information about your force sensor than the working standard calibration. We will be happy to advise you.
