Connection and Configuration of a T40 Torque Flange with the PMX System

This is a quickstart guide on connecting a T40 torque flange to a PMX System.

Required components

  • 1 x PMX System (incl. power supply and Ethernet cable)
  • 1 x T40 torque flange
  • 1 x sensor power supply
  • 1 x cable:1-KAB153-6 (torque)
  • 1 x cable:1-KAB164-6 (speed and angle)

T40 Torque Flange

Connector 1: 1-KAB153-6 (torque)

Connector2: 1-KAB154-6 (speed); 1-KAB164-6 (speed and angle)

The sensor used in this example is a T40B with:

  • Nominal Torque: 100 Nm
  • Maximum Speed: 20 000 rpm
  • Shunt Signal: 49,38 Nm

Assignment for connectors

Connector 1:

Supply voltage and frequency output signal

Connector 2:

Rotational speed output signal, reference pulse (optional)

Connecting T40 to PX460 module

  • cable1-KAB153-6 links connector 1 (T40 Sensor) to the channels1/2 of the PX460 module(PMX)
  • cable1-KAB164-6 links connector 2(T40 Sensor) to the channels3/4 of the PX460 module (PMX)
  • Sensor power supply is linked to the channels1/2

Figure: PX460 – one torque flange, torque, speed and angle/direction of rotation

Configuration of the PMX System with connected torque flange

  • Channel 1 (PX460 upper connector): Torque, center frequency 10kHz, nominal (rated) torque 1kNm
  • Channel 2 (PX460 upper connector): not in use
  • Channel 3 (PX460 lower connector): Speed in rpm, 1024 encoder
  • Channel 4 (PX460 lower connector): Angle in degrees; 4x resolution, therefore 4096 pulses = 360°

The measured values fluctuate around the real value dependent on the measurement principle (pulse counting). Therefore set filter provisionally on 500Hz then adapt to application.

  • LoadPMX in theBrowser(pmx/)
  • Choose Administrator User Level
  • Choose the Slot with the PX460 module (here: 4)
  • Apply Settings according to the figure below

Using a Shunt Signal

Apply Settings according to the figure below

Calculation of Power through Calculated Channels

Equation to calculate the power:

Units:

P: W

M: Nm

n: rpm

  • Choose the Calculated Channels through Settings
  • The factor  is represented by a constant signal (here: InternalID {72})

The factors torque and speed are multiplied (here: InternalID {73})

Power is calculated by multiplying the previous introduced internal channels

the Result is shown on Calculated Channel 1
