Torque Transducers Calibration

The HBK calibration laboratory offers many advantages when calibrating your torque transducer from 0.2 N·m to 400 kN·m. HBK maintains the only private calibration laboratory worldwide that can offer you this service.

Traceable

ISO 17025 certification.

Direct traceability to the German National Metrology Institute (PTB).

Assessment of the calibration laboratory by independent experts at regular intervals.

Benefit from calibration certificates with minimal measurement uncertainty, directly traceable to the National Standard.

Precise

Calibration machines with minimal measurement uncertainty (in non-state calibration laboratories).

Dead-load machines (sensors are loaded with weights on a lever arm in the Earth’s gravity field) up to 25 kN·m, extraordinary for a private calibration laboratory.

Machine accuracy up to 0.008% .

Unique competence up to 400 kN·m with a measurement uncertainty of 0.1%.

Optimize your measurement uncertainty assessment using the actual transducer characteristics - instead of data sheet specifications only.

Individual

Choice of different calibration standards:

DIN 51309.

VDI/VDE 2646.

Working standard calibration.

Measurement chain or sensor? DIN 51309 to meet the highest demands or VDI/VDE 2646? It's your choice. We will be happy to advise you!

Decision Guide: The Right Calibration For Your Demands

If you want to know everything about your sensor:  Calibration in accordance with DIN 51309 requires measurements using the sensor in three varying mounting positions. In other words, the sensor is rotated by 120° in the machine in each case i.e. the torque transducer needs to be mounted and dismounted thrice. The following characteristics are obtained from a DIN 51309 calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Hysteresis values for each calibration step
  • Repeatability and reproducibility for one and for varying mounting positions for each calibration step
  • Creep behavior
  • Return to zero
  • Interpolation error (the measured value’s potential deviation from the cubic and linear approximation).
  • Classification in accordance with DIN 51309

Furthermore, the calibration certificate specifies the measurement uncertainty as defined in DIN 51309.  This calibration provides guaranteed proof that your torque sensor is traceable measuring equipment (as required by ISO 9001). Conformity assessment: HBK will identify whether a torque sensor is outside the data sheet specifications.

Best price-to-performance ratio with guaranteed traceability Calibration in accordance with VDI/VDE 2646 requires two series of measurement in one mounting position (as opposed to DIN 51309). The following sensor characteristics are obtained from this calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Optimized sensitivity (obtained from the increasing and decreasing series’ measured values, based on the least squares method)
  • Maximum linearity deviation
  • Maximum relative reversibility error
  • Remanence value
  • Furthermore, the calibration certificate specifies the measurement uncertainty. The required reproducibility data are based on statistical values resulting from similar calibrations. Besides HBK products, the database comprises many third-party sensors.

This calibration provides guaranteed proof that your torque sensor is traceable measuring equipment (in accordance with ISO 9001).  Conformity assessment: HBK will identify whether a torque sensor is outside the data sheet specifications.

HBK also offers a working standard calibration with individually selectable load steps.  The following sensor characteristics are obtained from this calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Remanence value
  • Conformity assessment: HBM will identify whether a torque sensor is outside the data sheet specifications.

Our recommendation: We recommend calibration in accordance with VDI/VDE 2646 which, at the same price, provides you with more information about your torque sensor than the working standard calibration.

HBK offers the calibration of alternating torque in accordance with DAkkS-DKD-R 10-5. The following sensor characteristics are obtained from this calibration and specified in the calibration certificate:

  • Exact output signal for each calibration step
  • Reference straight-line equation
  • Remanence value
  • Graphical representation of the deviation from the reference straight line
