The MP85A-S EASYswitch process controller monitors the functioning of your switches during production – using powerful evaluation algorithms, exactly matched to the special characteristics of your switches.

MP85A-S EASYswitch analyzes the typical force-displacement and torque-angle of rotation curves as well as the electric switching points – and immediately signals variations, if these occur outside permissible tolerances.

You instantly get a clear OK/NOK evaluation. This is important to optimize production control and to minimize downtimes. Alarm limits in the production process ensure optimum machine protection. EASYswitch records all measurement curves and results – online, reliably, and instantaneously.

EASYswitch comprises all functions required for full control and provides easy-to-handle software to enable you to configure variable test sequences without any extensive programming knowledge.

Integrated digital inputs enable up to 5 switching events to be electrically checked, either simultaneously or sequentially:

  • Position of the switching point or switching process in the switch test window
  • Direction of switching (break/make contact)
  • Actuation force and moment
  • Repetitions.
  • 100% quality control of the checking process
  • Powerful algorithms for acquiring and assessing switching points and locking operations

You can choose whether to store the data on your PC or on the memory card in the device. Storage on a memory card can be set up as a circular buffer for the last 1,000 oder 10,000 curves. In both cases it is possible to store curves and/or results in ASCII or Qdas format.

The data on the memory card can then be transcribed to the PC. A report with all process information can be printed for each process if necessary.
Furthermore, a free HBM software tool automatically converts process data and results after storage in the data format IPM.

Integrated Process Data Management (IPM)

IPM interface for MP85A amplifiers

A free IPM process data management software interface is available for MP85A DP FASTpress and MP85A-S EASYswitch amplifiers. The interface enables recorded production data to be transmitted directly to a QS server for visualization and archiving; this makes production control more convenient.

IPM stands for Integrated Processdata Management and denotes a software that automatically captures physical process and measurement data and, in addition, provides reporting for production and quality assurance. Whether in production monitoring at production sites or in test benches - access to clearly presented data about productivity, down time and setup time as well as product and manufacturing quality saves costs; this has been proven by an ROI calculation (Return on investment).

Convenient and extensive data transmission

The IPM interface enables measured values and complete curves as well as up to 9 (evaluation) windows to be transmitted. IPM communicates both the overall status of the production process and the individual status of the respective evaluation window. The production process and utilization of capacities including down time can be analyzed in detail without the necessity of actually being on site at the assembly line or the press-fit system.

Measurement data in real time

Measurement data is provided in real time via the Web browser and permanently saved to the IPM database to comply with product liability requirements. In addition, IPM also monitors the captured process and measurement data in real time; this enables, for example, production defects to be easily detected. Whether by SMS or by email - staff in charge of production is automatically notified of any error message. Fast error logging enables the product quality to be increased; costs resulting from product recalls, on the other hand, are reduced.

ePLAN: Electrical engineering and project planning made easy

In addition to the industrial amplifiers HBM provides the appropriate ePLAN macros. They allow easy and error-free integration of the instruments in the project planning of the automation environment.

ePLAN Electric P8 is an engineering tool for modern CAE software supported by a database and facilitates consistent project planning, documentation and administration of automation systems. ePLAN macros enable users to easily integrate the process controllers in their project planning. Parts data, drawings and pin assignments are available in ePLAN Electric P8 immediately after import of the macros.

Software FASTpress Suite

FASTpress Suite – powered by HBM Industrial Software

The HMI software is part of the FASTpress software suite and works together with the process controllers of the FASTpress and EASYswitch families. It can also be adjusted and expanded country- and application-specifically.

Class Library (API)

The Framework Class Library (FCL) comprises several thousand classes divided into Namespaces. The classes perform tasks such as formatting text, sending e-mails, but also generating codes. Categorization into namespaces serves to arrange the large quantity of information more manageably. The manufacturer provides the documentation of classes with the software. All the functions of the HBM FASTpress and EASYswitch process controllers are combined in the API of the MP85A Toolkit. This makes all the implementation options for required device functions available to application programmers in their own application.

System Architecture

Process controllers of the FASTpress and EASYswitch series are used as hardware platform. Their physical connection to the host system on which the user's target application is running consists of the standardized Ethernet interface. The non-real-time TCP-IP protocol runs on this interface at 100 Mbit/s. With the MP85A Toolkit, HBM has created a tool that sets up and maintains the connection to the host system and also makes a library available from which the user can create a software application for the production process.

Availability and Tools

The manufacturer Microsoft offers .NET in various versions:

  • as a simple runtime environment together with the required class libraries (framework)
  • as a free SDK for developers
  • or sold as an integrated development environment (IDE) in the form of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.

Especially for beginners and students, Microsoft Visual Studio Express Editions is available at no cost. It has restrictions compared to the expensive standard or professional versions. This makes it easy for both beginners and professional application programmers to get started. The HBM MP85A Toolkit also provides extensive help with numerous explanations and sample programs. These examples are available in the source code and can easily be adjusted and expanded.

Powerful production software – INDUSTRYmonitor

To make it possible to use the full performance of HBM process monitoring, a completely new user interface was created based on .NET technology. This tool is used to record process data, for visualization and to save data. In addition to the functions and information made available by the process controllers of the FASTpress and EASYswitch series, workpiece designations can also be read via bus interfaces (CAN, Profibus, Ethernet) or barcode scanners (USB). This information is displayed and saved and facilitates a clear overview and simple archiving of acquired process data. Up to 12 process controllers can be operated over the Ethernet network. Cycle times measured in seconds with display and storage of process data in the background can be implemented. This software can also be used on all target systems on which WindowsXP/7/8 is installed as the operating system.

The example of the communication with the MP85A about Ethernet please unzip recursive in the ZIP archive (relatively stored paths). The program sends and receives data by means of the functions AG_send and AG_Recv (FC5 and FC6). It are sent 10 bytes to the SPS and 14 bytes should be received again. Example-Sequence to read and write consitent data as well an example to read and write the workpiece-id via Profibus-DPV1 with Siematic Step7:
This basic example shows the transmission of measuring-value and Control-word (Float data format) from the MP85ADP(-S) via Provibus-DP interface to a master (e.g. Siemens PLC). Programming is done in Step7 Siemens software using the function blocks for reading (SFC14) and writing (SFC15) MP85ADP data. Further more the example contains reading and writing the workpiece-id via the Profibus DPV1-function using the function-blocks for reading (SFB52) und writing (SFB53) to MP85ADP(-S).
