Optical strain gauges offer several advantages over traditional strain gauge sensors such as immunity to electromagnetic interference, high fatigue limits and multiplexing capabilities. Additionally, configuring an optical strain gauge with catman software is very different than for a traditional metal foil strain gauge. Based on the newLight® technology, FS61DSP Displacement Sensor is a ruggedized Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor designed to measure linear displacement on different types of structures.
